Location

Derawan is a collection of islands off the eastern coast of Kalimantan. The most well known of the islands of Derawan are Maratua, Sangalaki and Kakaban. Together, the Derawan islands are a part of the famous Coral Triangle that is home to one of the most diverse marine biodiversity on the Earth.

Marine Life

Diving in Derawan will reward you with an incredibly diverse marine life and ecosystem. The waters in Derawan are part of the Coral Triangle that is home to a major hotspot for marine biodiversity on our planet. Derawan is most famous for its concentration of endangered Giant Green Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles. The turtles can even be seen from the shores before you leave the beach. This dive site is also excellent for its macro life where you can observe the Stonefish, Ghost Pipefish, Nudibrances, Dragonets and much more.

Hydrology Condition

Derawan enjoys excellent diving conditions all year round with an average water temperature of about 28 Celsius (82 Fahrenheit). Visibility is excellent as well maxing out at about 20 meters.

To reach Derawan, You can take a flight from Jakarta, Surabaya or Denpasar to Balikpapan Then take a connecting flight to Tanjung Redeb in Berau. From here is another 2 hour car drive to arrive at Tanjung Batu harbor and then cross over using a speed boat for 30 minutes to get to Derawan Island

All rooms have a view straight to the ocean and equipped with A/C and hot water for showers. We provide 3 meals of B/L/D with Indonesia Style food. Extra condiments are available at extra charge.
