Things to Prepare Before Your PADI Diving Course in Bali

October 18, 2019

Due to its great biodiversity and breathtaking dive sites, Bali is recognized as a top diving destination worldwide. However, exploring the underwater world is not as easy as it sounds, and there are a few things to consider in order to avoid unwanted experiences while in the depths.

Before deciding which PADI course to take, check out these common doubts that other divers sometimes experience.

How long will it take?

The minimum length of a PADI beginners diving course is usually four days, which includes all theory, pool work and open ocean sessions. In order to guarantee the safety and satisfaction of learning for each student, this is standard for all international dive training agencies. However, many dive centers also offer three full days (or even less) for certification, even if it’s against the formal standards.

Which location to start in?

Diving in Bali is focused in three main areas: Tulamben and Amed in the Northeast, Pemuteran and Menjangan in the Northwest, and Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida in the south.

The Tulamben and Amed area is the most accessible spot which offers exciting dives suitable for all levels. The USS Liberty Shipwreck is the main attraction here along with some other interesting dive sites which are all easily accessible from the shore. Pemuteran is a remote but interesting village in the north where you can find enjoyable dives, especially on the island of Menjangan. Lastly, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida, which offer some of the most colorful coral reefs on the island, though the currents can be powerful and dangerous, so make sure you are properly trained first!

How much to pay?

The costs in Bali are varied. The standard price should be around USD 300 to 350. You should receive all materials including manual, dive slates, dive equipment rental and at least temporary proof of your certification license provided at the end of the course. Avoid prices that are too low or too high.
